"Bonked Out"

Fellas, went on a little journey Sat. morning..... My intentions were to do a 100 mile ride......Got a late start 8 am cst........ First 50 miles were excellent (16.5 mph)..... at 12 pm I started to really struggle....... the temperature rose to 94 degrees with high humidity....... I pounded 80 ounces of fluid to no avail....... I ended up doing 85 miles but really struggled the last 15 and did not have anything left in the tank........ My body and clothes were Salt stained and I was severely dehydrated........ Do we need to consider Salt Tabs and sun block for such rides....... If the BDB 100 is this way, its going to be brutal........ I guess if it had been game day I would have gutted it out...... would have gave it hell!

Kudos to you for giving it a shot, Dino. You inspire us all and give us all something to shoot for. It's also through your experiences that we can better prepare for the BDB.
Yes, we all need to consider how we get our electrolytes. There is no sports drink in the world that provides all we'll need. Salt tabs/electrolyte tabs or a pure electrolyte drink are my recommendations. Mark uses a great electrolyte drink that he can suggest to you.
As for suncscreen, it's definitely a good idea. That's a long day if it's hot and sunny.
Way to give it hell and give it a try. I was hoping the we would all do it together for the first time, but if you decide to do it beforehand, I sure support you.
Kia Kaha!
