Decent week overall, although the weekend was lacking... allergies are kill'n me and have me quite fatigued over the last 4-5 days...no energy and the flowing snot is making it difficult to be outside. I even skipped the first day of dove season today cause I just didn't feel like being outside. Hoping for some rain this week to light'n the allergy load.

Beginning tomorrow and I am moving into ultra mode, both physically and mentally, in preperation for the BDB...will shed a few extra pounds by beefing up the cardio; all the while maintaining the strength training program so no slippage in that area. Mentally, I am preparing by riding it in my head...it's a way I approach many things in my life, be it a meeting, or other. I have already crossed the finish line, many, many times....

The mental aspect of training and competing is perhaps even more important than the physical. All of us in this group have the physical ability to get up off the couch and do some exercise. It's taking the mental step and deciding to do it that takes greater effort.
Training and racing for something like the BDB 100 will have its peaks and valleys. What we have to remember is that neither will last. We won't always feel great, but thankfully, we also won't always feel fatigued, unmotivated, and just plain ol' tired. It takes mental toughness (and experience) to fight through the down times knowing that better times are ahead. There will be times during the BDB that we will feel GREAT. It can be five minutes later and we'll feel like we can't pedal another revolution. Pushing through those "down" moments are what give you the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the race. It's what you train so hard for.
Even Olympic athletes will tell you that it's about more than the gold medal.
We need to be proud of what this lifestyle does for our physical inside and out, but I believe it's more important what it does for our mental side. More confidence, motivation, discipline, toughness, and perseverance will be yours when you've fought the battle of mental and physical fatigue to push through. It's a great feeling!
